Riding with Wobbly Wheels

This blog has been set up to record my participation in The Challenge:
a marathon cycle ride up the full length of Britain and then back south down the full length of Ireland
by a team of 6 riders,4 of whom have Parkinson's disease.
The purpose of the ride is to raise money for Parkinson's UK and to promote awareness of the search for a cure.

Bookmark this page, tell your friends about this blog and follow me on my (often wobbly) ride.

In the meantime, keep on scrolling down to read the Wobbly Weasel's latest Post.

And don't forget, whilst "on the road", there is a daily journal by all the Team of its ride at the Pedal for Parkinson's Challenge Website. (Click on the link below in the right hand column.)

The Challenge.

From right to left: Les Roberts, Nigel Macvean, Mark Vallance, David Greaves, Ian Watkinson, Chris Bennett and Chris Brown. Chris Brown and Ian are riding with a second team that sets off from Lands End a couple of days before the rest of us start our ride from Lizard Point on Wednesday 15th June. Neil Manning couldn't make it for the photoshoot but having already cycled Land's End to John O'Groats for Parkinson's, he is this year the 6th Man riding the Double End-to-End.

Final Adjustments

I shall be hitting the road to Ripon within the hour to meet up with the other Challenge team members for a final get-together before the "off" in 12 days time. My form is still not great but as long as I take things steadily I reckon I shall be ok – I shall use the first 2 weeks as preparation for the second two (a method that apparently Greg LeMond used to use too). The new kit we have had manufactured by Owayo is expected to be with us by 9th. It is a pity we won't have it for this week-end because it features the logos of our sponsors but we do have the jerseys supplied by Parkinson's UK which will enable us to do some promotional work – mainly in the form of photo shoots. It promises to be warm and sunny but I hope this doesn't mean that by the time the Challenge starts all our quota of fine weather will have been used up.
David is putting on a BBQ for us all this evening and tomorrow we shall roll out into the North Yorkshire moors for our first ride together. Then on Sunday, the original plan was to meet the Archbishop of Ripon but he has had to cry off sick so I expect we shall just go for another ride before returning home sometime that evening.
The donations are still rolling in and the original target has already been surpassed. We have now set a new target and are hopeful of achieving that as well.
